Twitter: over 105 million users!

Ever since the start of Twitter in March 2006, Twitter has always kept silent about its users. However, the company finally revealed its amount of users during Twitter’s Chirp developer conference. Biz Stone, co-founder of this micro-blogging service, showed an impressive number of 105,779,710 registered users, and it is still growing by 300,000 users each day!

Google Maps offers a wide range of features. If you are searching for a hotel, Google Maps will tell you where they are located. If you are unfamiliar with an address is, just type it in Google Maps and it will gladly aid you. If you want to know how the environment of location B looks like, Google Maps’ Street View will show you what it looks like.

No Three Strikes policy in the Netherlands!

You may or may not know that in 2009 France accepted a so-called Three Strikes policy in an attempt to stop “illegal downloading” of copyrighted material. The official name of this initiative is Graduated Response. In general, this anti-piracy measure holds that users who are caught downloading pirated content will receive a warning letter from their ISP (Internet Service Provider). If you continue to infringe copyrights online after two warnings, your internet connection will be terminated and it can even result in litigation.

Tilburg University recruiting on Facebook

Tilburg University decided to recruit Master Service Engineering students by campaigning on Facebook! The universities of Stuttgart and Crete are joining in on the campaign “Hello World” as well. The reason for doing so is because they believe that this target group is usually found on online social networks.

Google Buzz

On February 9th, Google expanded its Gmail service with Google Buzz; Facebook’s new rival. With Buzz it is possible to follow online activities of friends on other websites. For example, updates on Twitter and new posts on friends’ blogs. Buzz also allows its users to share own statuses, pictures and videos with their friends. Friends then can react on these messages.
